CELEBRATE A GREEN CITY FUTURE
Project goals:
This youth exchange had brought together 44 young Europeans (including leaders and facilitators) in Alicante, Spain, to discuss and explore urban sustainability, the impact of cities on the environment, adaptation of cities to Climate Change, and other topics, such as the promotion of public transport. Alicante, known for its rich cultural heritage, vibrant urban life, and proximity to the Mediterranean Sea, had provided an inspiring setting for these discussions.
Other issues such as plastic pollution, climate change, and the impact of transportation on the environment had been explored. Participants had developed skills for public participation and group management and had reviewed the current policies of the European Union regarding the environment.
During this youth exchange, participants had had the opportunity to gain a more in-depth vision of current environmental problems, and more specifically, the impact and solutions that cities can offer to face these problems. Alicante’s blend of modern urban development and historical preservation had served as a practical example of how cities could balance progress with sustainability.
